Egg Punch and Breakfast Coffee

It's the happiest time of year! Yeah, even for a Grinch like me. There is much to love: friends, family, food and cooler days (or cold, depending on where you live). I can enjoy hot meals without fear of spontaneous combustion. Oh, and Egg Punch and Coffee for Breakfast.
Yes, yes, I know, a brief reminder that not all strikeouts contain alcohol. this is one of these

And now a small confession: The Egg Punch and Coffee (or Chocolate) for Breakfast is not part of my family's tradition. In fact, I learned of her existence as an adult. My first reaction was "uáala!", Followed by realizing that if one does not have an open mind to new flavors and experiences the mind becomes fossilized, and one becomes one of those people.
Do not be like those people.
Yes, homemade punch for breakfast, who would think?
There are more versions of this drink, some with chocolate instead of coffee, some with alcohol (yes, at breakfast), and some with whole eggs, others with medium-cooked eggs. I have a rational fear of salmonellosis, so I made mine with sufficiently cooked eggs. If this drink is part of your family tradition, I would love to hear how they do it in your family.

Yes, the happiest time of year. My family is scattered, and we will not be able to spend it together, but I will have family and friends around, and my favorite human: my daughter.
May these happy and peaceful parties be for you, and that you spend them with the people you love and who love you. And food.
Merry Christmas!

Breakfast Punch Recipe: A hot, rich, thick drink, special for the cooler days of the year.
Serves : 4 servings
Author : Clara Gonzalez
Ingredients
  • cups [7 dl] of evaporated milk
  • egg yolks
  • 1/4 cups [55 g] sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • cup [2.4 dl] strong , hot coffee
  • A pinch of grated nutmeg
Instructions
  1. Heat the milk: Heat the milk, but make sure it does not boil.
  2. Mix eggs and milk: Mix eggs, sugar and salt. Beat until well blended. Add the milk to chorritos, beating well before adding the next cry. Mix with the coffee.
  3. Heat the punch: Return the mixture to the pot and heat again to medium-low heat, beating constantly until frothy and a little thick (about 5 mins).
  4. Refresh and serve: Remove from heat and continue beating until refreshed a little, to avoid that it forms "cream". Add the nutmeg and serve immediately.
