Roast Chicken with 5 Spices and Honey and Baked Potatoes

Before I became a strict vegetarian in my twenties I ate everything, at least once. This included meals of questionable origins and some cuts of strange meats. You could say that it was a voracious carnivore. Eventually I abandoned strict vegetarianism, but even now I subsist on its bulk of vegetarian food.
We all have our preferences, from the totally reasonable to the stupidest.
Except for vegetarians, few people hate chicken. It is a very popular meat, and what makes this chicken and potatoes roasted with 5 spices and honey a favorite is that it is perfect for summer. It takes a few minutes to prepare it, leave it in the oven and you will stay fresh to prevent death by spontaneous combustion.

I mentioned before that my family and friends are my "testers". And at least my daughter and husband are brutally honest in their opinions. They do not have ideas how many recipes have died in this stage of the process, after all if I do not achieve that they like it I would not dare to "serve" them to you.
This is one of those dishes that passed the test with excellent notes. I saw him disappear from the plate so fast that it would appear that he was not even chewed.

Some would think that using the oven in the summer is counterproductive, the reality is that standing in front of the stove to cook a hot dish is much worse.
The idea behind this method (there are other similar recipes on the blog) is that you prepare everything in advance and when the time for lunch approaches you take it to the oven and stay away from the kitchen.

I cleaned and seasoned the chicken early in the morning, I left the potatoes ready to take to the oven and prepared a salad, then I left everything in the fridge until later. One hour before dinner I took it to the oven and just had to go back to the kitchen to get it out of the oven.

Roasted Chicken Recipe with 5 Spices and Honey and Baked Potatoes: A hot meal that does not require you to spend hours in the kitchen? Better it can not be. It's perfect for summer, and even winter!
Serves : 6 servings

Ingredients
For the chicken
  • 12 chicken legs
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • tablespoons of cayenne powder
  • tablespoon freshly ground pepper
  • tablespoon of paprika
  • tablespoon ginger powder
  • A pinch of sweet clove powder
  • tablespoon of salt
  • 1/3 cup of honey
For the potatoes
  • 2 1/2 lb medium potatoes , peeled and washed
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon of sea salt
  • teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
For the chicken
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 ° C [175 ° C].
  2. Clean the chicken eliminating all the fat, but without removing the skin.
  3. Restrict the chicken with the lemon juice.
  4. In a separate bowl mix cayenne, pepper, paprika, ginger, cloves, salt and honey. Spread the chicken with the spice mixture, try to spread a little under the skin. Place on a baking sheet with a wire tray in the bottom .
For the potatoes
  1. Cut the potatoes into wedges 0.5 "[1.5 cm] in the thickest part, mix with the oil until they are completely covered, season with the salt, and garlic powder.
  2. Place on a baking sheet with wire tray bottom.
  3. Take the chicken and baked potatoes. Cook for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and taste the potatoes cooked. If they are not, return to the oven for another 10 minutes. Puncture the chicken and make sure the juices do not have traces of blood. Return the chicken to the oven for 10 more minutes if needed.
  4. Serve with green salad.
